Ambient Skies with Rumen

A deep listening event to be swept away by sound, skies and seascape

Doors open at 7:30pm, music from 8:30pm.

For the launch of our new series we invite ambient artists Rumen to fill the ancient castle grounds with sounds that will take you away following an introduction to the skies from astronomers the Sussex Sidewalk Astronomers.

Come and relax, enjoy the panoramic views of the sea, sunset and stars.

After Rumen’s set you can continue relaxing with drinks from the bar and talk through the night sky with the Astronomers and look through one of their telescopes they’ll be bringing along.

NOTE: Of course star gazing is cloud dependent, so instead we may introduce cloud spotting or reschedule the event for another time.

THIS IS RUMEN:

Rooted in cinematic soundscapes, conjuring emotional evocative imagery. Christopher White & Ruby Colley come together for the first time to release a unique collaborative project, driven by soprano saxophone, violin and electronics.

As well as conventional playing styles they employ extended techniques, utilizing the violin & saxophone in textural and unexpected ways. Their live performances manipulate live strings, synths and multi-tracking recordings. Both driven by composition that defies categorisation, White & Colley traverse genres such as classical, jazz and electronica creating celestial soundscapes that immerse and captivate.

Bring a blanket and cushions to make yourself comfortable and cosy. We will encourage audiences to lie down for this event.

As with every event at the castle, it is weather dependent and this event may be subject to postponement or cancellation. We will let you know if this is the case on the morning of the event at the latest.
