Dusking is a newly invented tradition, conceived by artist Lucy J Wright in 2024. In her words…
‘As the counterpart to the morris dancing that takes place on 1st May marking the arrival of summer. At Dusking we ‘dance the sun down’ while honouring the equal gifts of rest, reflection and replenishment associated with the darker months of the year.
This can be done alone or as part of a gathering.’
Join us alone or with some friends.
Join in or just join the gathering.
Artist Hannah Davey & Vanessa Farinha will introduce all who gather at the Ladies Parlour to the new Dusking tradition and provide some prompts that will welcome our intentions and expressions for the season ahead.
You can use any objects, movements, sound & song, dance or poetry that you like to do this.
Some repeated motifs so far have been… using hessian sacks to ‘extinguish the sun’, creating costumes or clothing that signify the themes and intentions of the moment for you, bringing noise makers, dance morris style or any style you like and any or none of the above.
